He has expertise and extensive experience in commercial litigation and arbitration (both domestic and international), handling disputes both of a general commercial nature as well as public and regulatory disputes across sectors, including technology & data, financial regulation, administrative, white collar, infrastructure, consumer, sports, media and entertainment, employment, food and beverage, local government, planning and environment, and public sector projects.

He regularly appears and argues matters before Courts (including High Courts and the Supreme Court), Tribunals and Regulatory Authorities.

Professional Experience

• Representing IDBI Trusteeship Services Limited in various proceedings for enforcement of security created in relation to Optionally and Partially Convertible Debentures issued by group companies of Hubtown Ltd. One such proceeding (the Summons for Judgment in a Summary Suit filed under a corporate guarantee issued by Hubtown Ltd.) was escalated to the Supreme Court and resulted in a landmark judgment on grant of leave to defend in Summary Suits (overruled the law in place since the 1970s).
• Represented the BCCI before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, in proceedings which interpreted Section 26 of the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act, 2015 by way of a landmark judgment.
• Representing Truecaller International LLP in a Public Interest Litigation filed before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court, inter alia against Truecaller, raising allegations pertaining to the collection and retention of user’s personal data and sensitive personal data.
• Represented and argued an SLP on behalf of the Asian Cricket Council, before the Supreme Court, and obtained an order of deposit against Indian Overseas Bank. Presently representing the Asian Cricket Council in the Summary Suit proceedings before the Bombay High Court, in which the aforesaid deposit was obtained.
• Represented the BCCI in arbitral proceedings against Nimbus Communication Ltd. (“Nimbus”), wherein an award (including interest) of over INR 600 crores was passed in favour of the BCCI. Presently representing the BCCI in proceedings filed by Nimbus challenging the said Award.
• Represented the BCCI (and conducted trial on its behalf) in arbitration proceedings initiated by Sahara Adventure Sports Ltd., wherein the arbitral tribunal inter alia dismissed all claims against the BCCI amounting to over INR1400 crores.
• Represented Qognify Pte (Singapore) Ltd. and Qognify Limited, Israel (part of the Hexagon Group) in their disputes with SCS Tech India Pvt. Limited across four technology projects and negotiated a comprehensive mediation settlement.
• Advised Qognify Pte (Singapore) Ltd. in relation to the Nagpur Smart City Project.
• Advised Qognify Security Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and its Director, in defending a Commercial Suit filed by its ex-employee in New Delhi and negotiated a settlement in the matter.
• Advising Qognify Pte (Singapore) Ltd. and Qognify Limited, Israel (part of the Hexagon Group) in relation to proceedings initiated by the Income Tax Department, touching upon the Direct Tax Avoidance Agreements between India-Singapore and India-Israel.
• Advised one of the world’s largest film and entertainment companies (Sony Pictures Films India Pvt. Ltd.) on commercial, insolvency and criminal aspects of their disputes pertaining to a film in India.
• Advised the Indian promoters of a joint venture in relation to shareholder disputes and arbitral proceedings with their former German partner (Enercon GmbH) in the wind energy sector.
• Advised and represented a Spanish infrastructure company (Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicios SA) in relation to their arbitral disputes under several projects with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. The arbitral proceedings have culminated into awards in favour of Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicios SA to the tune of over INR 180 Crores. We are also presently defending the challenge filed by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. to the said awards.
• Representing the BCCI in an international commercial arbitration initiated against it by Percept D’Mark Gulf LLC.
• Representing the BCCI in a domestic commercial arbitration initiated against it by Percept Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
• Representing the BCCI in commercial summary suits against Union Bank of India, Indian Bank and Punjab National Bank, before the Bombay High Court, for an amount of INR 1600 Crores.
• Representing the BCCI in its challenge to an arbitral award in favour of Kochi Cricket Private Limited before the Bombay High Court.
• Represented Itochu Corporation, Japan in a summary suit and related proceedings before the Bombay High Court.
• Representing Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in proceedings challenging arbitral awards passed against it, before the Bombay High Court.
• Representing a leading Composite Insurance Broking House in proceedings against one of its ex-employees for theft of confidential and proprietary information.
• Advising Rolex Watch Company Private Limited in defending consumer complaints filed in various State and District Consumer Commissions across India.
• Advising Adani Cement entities (ACC Limited and Ambuja Cement) in certain key ongoing arbitrations.
• Representing and advising a large business conglomerate with national and international interest in various sectors, in investigations and proceedings initiated by a regulatory authority.
• Advising a US-based entity, who are global leaders in the manufacture and supply of industrial release agents and lubricants, in relation to their shareholder disputes with their Indian joint venture partner in India.
• Advising a multi-national telecommunication company in relation to criminal proceedings arising out of data theft.
• Advising a UHNWI in relation to criminal proceedings arising out of cyber fraud.
• Advising a UHNWI in relation to business fraud, across his businesses in Mauritius and Dubai.
• Advising inter alia IndusInd Bank, GE, MMTC-PAMP India Pvt. Ltd., the Essar Group, Chang Chun Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., and Marsh India Pvt. Ltd., in relation to (and in anticipation of) criminal proceedings.
• Advised Tobii, a Swedish high-technology company that develops and sells products for eye control and eye tracking, on its disputes with its Indian distributor.
• Advising a US-based investment management company in relation to its investment in an Indian Startup in the ed-tech sector.
• Advising L&T entities in relation to disputes and differences under tender documents for various projects.
• Advising LTIMindtree Ltd. in relation to disputes with an ex-employee, in India and the USA.
• Advising one of the world’s largest energy & chemicals company in relation to enforcement of foreign judgment(s) in India.
• Advising a subsidiary of an Indian multinational, engaged in the engineering services and R&D sector, in its claims and entitlements from a Public Sector Undertaking under a tender and contract for a public project, owing to the additional costs and liabilities incurred by it and loss of opportunity to earn profits during the prolonged period of the contract.
• Advising and representing a multinational technology company in relation to regulatory and licensing disputes.
• Advising a leading DaaS entity, in relation to its disputes with the Cloud Software Group.
• Advising a leading travel portal in relation to its disputes with various production houses regarding purported Intellectual Property infringement.
• Advising a leading travel portal in relation to civil and criminal proceedings arising out of its agreement with a state transport corporation.
