Biplab has more than 12 years of experience in both law firms and in-house dealings with contentious and non-contentious matters.

Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, healthcare, digital health, food, intellectual property, and biotechnology regulatory and compliance issues are among his areas of expertise. Biplab is also an industrial biotech engineer. With a bachelor’s degree in technology and experience as a corporate lawyer, he delivers a unique blend of technological and legal competence to our clients that requires both legal and technical expertise.

He specialises in advising on complex regulatory and approvals process for pharmaceutical, clinical trial, food & nutraceuticals and healthcare organizations, while also navigating the associated challenges. He has worked on several complex transactions in the drugs, medical devices, digital health, cosmetics, clinical establishments, biotechnology and life sciences sector and has assisted in providing advice in notable industry litigations such as product liability law in India, especially regarding pharmaceuticals and medical devices, challenges to DPCO and the FDC ban matter.

Biplab advises clients on varied intellectual property matters such as prosecution strategy and enforcement, opposition and infringement of patents. He advices on general IP-related issues, including protection of plant varieties, and issues relating to applicable biodiversity laws in India.

Biplab is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur Law School. He publishes, consults, and gives extended lectures on a wide range of subjects related to digital health and emerging technology in the pharma and healthcare space.

  • Advised Advent International in its proposed investment of INR 2,475 crore in Apollo Healthco Limited-a material subsidiary of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited.
  • Advised Biocon Biologics Limited in the sale of its dermatology and nephrology branded formulations business units in India to Eris Lifesciences Limited.
  • Advised promoters of Suven Pharmaceuticals Limited in relation to acquisition by Advent for a majority stake followed by an open offer.
  • Advised Laurus Labs on its investment in Immunoadoptive Cell Therapy Private Ltd.
  • Advised Mastercard (technology company in global payment industry) in relation to its investment in Pine Labs, Asia’s leading merchant commerce platform.
  • Advised Colorcon Inc., a world leader in the design and development of speciality excipients for the pharmaceutical and nutritional industries in acquisition of a majority stake in Ideal Cures.
  • Advised Piramal Enterprises Limited in relation to the transfer of the pharmaceuticals business to Carlyle Group.
  • Advised Novozymes in acquisition of majority stake in Synergia Life Sciences Private Limited.
  • Advised a major private equity fund in relation to its investment in a company involved in the marketing and sales of pharmaceutical products.
  • Advised Kedaara Capital in acquisition of AMI Lifesciences and Raichur Laboratories, engaged in the business of manufacturing, distribution, and selling of active pharmaceutical ingredients and pharmaceutical intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Advised a top-tier multinational firm in relation to the acquisition of a consumer health business.
  • Advised a US based company in relation to its acquisition of a network of cancer treatment facilities which is operational across India and South Asia.
  • Advised a major private equity fund in relation to its investment in a company involved in the marketing and sales of pharmaceutical products.
  • Advised in relation to the acquisition of an over-the-counter pharmaceutical manufacturing facility on a slump sale basis.
  • Advised a multinational client in the electricity generation and supply sector in transferring of its entire patent portfolio.
  • Representing a multinational client in the chemical sector before Delhi High Court in a patent infringement matter.
  • Represented Johnson and Johnson private Limited before Delhi High Court and Supreme Court in relation to ongoing issues relating to tender and recall of medical devices from the Indian market as part of a worldwide recall.
  • Representing clients in relation to filing and prosecuting patent applications, assignment applications before Indian Patent Office.
